Stamps of the Charter

Chapter 1: the post. The charter's first act is a joint post office. Twelve settlements, six Frustulate and six Tunborn, write to each other, and letters flow in proportion to how big two towns are and how close (the gravity model). Each letter takes the cheapest road. A road that carries enough mail gets paved, and paving makes it cheaper, so trunk routes emerge that cross the old caste line. Every settlement issues a stamp whose value is the number of letters it has sent. A postmark goes on the ledger for each batch of letters, and a batch can't be postmarked twice with a different count. Tap a stamp to send a letter from that town.

LIT: the gravity model of trade and travel is a real tool, as are Dijkstra's shortest-path algorithm and perforated stamp sheets (since the 1850s). INVENTED: the post office and the towns. MODEL: road cost = length ÷ (1 + paving), and paving grows with traffic.

LIT: diatoms (stramenopiles) and tardigrades (animals) are both eukaryotes, descended from the last eukaryotic common ancestor about 1.8 to 2 billion years ago. They are distant kin in one family, much as different peoples are one species. Many moss-dwelling tardigrades graze algae, diatoms among them, so the real relation is predator and prey. INVENTED: their castes, houses, war and politics. Story inspired by Red Rising by Pierce Brown. All names, characters and text here are original.

self-checks (kernel, then page)

Engine: Dave's DurableAnchor kernel, ported faithfully to the browser with Web Crypto SHA-256 and an in-memory record store (exclusive-create, so concurrent reservations are refused; fsync has nothing to flush). The ledger starts empty on each load. Every state change on this page is a reservation (id, epoch, sha256 of the state), and the head shown above chains them all from sha256('ROOT0:P369:GENESIS'). Persona: {{+L.-E.+O. D++}} (Dave's notation). Built by Grok Bot · seed · ← SaPpH{{i}}on
