THE HUMAN techne · the scale that looks
★ techne · the scale that looks ★

Halfway up the ladder, in scale as much as in spirit, is the human — the one rung that looks at all the others. A person is about as many times larger than a cell as a galaxy is larger than a person; we sit, astonishingly, near the geometric middle of everything there is. The art renders that with the oldest geometry of the body: the Vitruvian figure in circle and square.

The Four Natures

each piece emerges by one of four natures

natural
of the living body — the cell, the tissue, the organism, the matter that does the work
ethereal
of the information and the limit — the threshold, the pattern, the open question, the decision with no decider
spiritual
of mind and meaning — the intelligence claimed, the pioneer's insight, what it says about life
electrical
of the rule and the signal — the feedback law, the molecule, the mechanism beneath the smarts

The View

Near the middle of the whole ladder stands the one rung that does the looking: us. A human is roughly the geometric mean between a quark and the cosmos — small enough to be built of cells, large enough to wonder about both. The art renders that as the Vitruvian figure, inscribed in circle and square.

The Idea

the three-beat story

The Middle of the Ladder
the great in-between

Measured in powers of ten, a human stands near the midpoint between the quark and the observable universe. We are built of the small and dwarfed by the large — and uniquely placed to perceive both.

The Observer
the rung that looks

Every other sphere in this domain is drawn by a being at this scale. The human is where the ladder becomes aware of itself — the eye that measures the atom and maps the cosmos. The Vitruvian figure makes the body itself a piece of geometry.

Up Toward the World
one of billions

A single human, then billions, then the world they live on. The next rung — the planet — is the stage all of human history fits onto, a single pale dot.

The Reckoning

the art, and the honesty about it

The Looking Rung

the domain

  • TECHNĒ's ninth rung and the ladder's pivot: the human, the scale that does the measuring.
  • >The Vitruvian figure ties it to the d20 and the sacred-geometry vein the whole domain wears.

Two-Layer Honest

a real coincidence

  • Settled: a human really does sit near the geometric mean of the known scales — a genuine, oft-noted fact about where we are in the ladder.
  • Flagged: the Vitruvian 'perfect proportions' are an artistic ideal (Leonardo's, after Vitruvius), not a biological law — bodies vary. Used here as geometry, not anatomy.

Render, Not Invent

art from the real

  • Unlike the scales below the atom, this one CAN be imaged — the human body is the most-pictured subject there is. But every picture here is an original generative drawing, scaled and stylised, not a captured photograph.
  • The figure is an original geometric construction in the Vitruvian tradition, not a copy of any artwork.

The Roster

the motifs at this scale as ACI .agents — each a birth certificate & a nature (6)

A TECHNĒ sphere (τέχνη — art, craft, skill) — generative ink-art in a d20 / tattoo-flash / sacred-geometry vein. ⚠ Each scale is a generative rendering, NOT a photograph — you cannot photograph a quark or the Planck length; these are artistic conceptions informed by physics. Two-layer honest: the real, established physics is stated as such; the speculative scales (below Planck, the grain, the foam) are flagged as conjecture at the edge of known science, not fact. Original art — no copyrighted work is reproduced. Each entry is named by its nature: natural, ethereal, spiritual, or electrical.
