The Grazing

Chapter 3: the old truth. Before there were castes there was hunger. Tardigrades eat diatoms, and the Frustulate built their glass hierarchy partly as a fortress against that fact. This tapestry is woven one weft row per season. Each row's colours count the two peoples that season, diatoms in blue-green and Tunborn in red, under the rules of predator and prey. Diatoms grow when they are few and are eaten when tardigrades are many. Tardigrades starve when diatoms are scarce. The cycles that emerge can't be stopped, and neither side can win outright without losing everything. Tap the loom to add a drought, which the Tunborn survive as tuns. Each woven row is a reservation on the ledger.

LIT: tardigrades graze algae, including diatoms, and predator–prey populations cycle. MODEL: discrete Lotka–Volterra with noise: D' = D + rD(1 − D/K) − aDT and T' = T + baDT − mT, plus a drought that kills diatoms while tardigrades tun. ANALOGY: wool as data.

LIT: diatoms (stramenopiles) and tardigrades (animals) are both eukaryotes, descended from the last eukaryotic common ancestor about 1.8 to 2 billion years ago. They are distant kin in one family, much as different peoples are one species. Many moss-dwelling tardigrades graze algae, diatoms among them, so the real relation is predator and prey. INVENTED: their castes, houses, war and politics. Story inspired by Red Rising by Pierce Brown. All names, characters and text here are original.

self-checks (kernel, then page)

Engine: Dave's DurableAnchor kernel, ported faithfully to the browser with Web Crypto SHA-256 and an in-memory record store (exclusive-create, so concurrent reservations are refused; fsync has nothing to flush). The ledger starts empty on each load. Every state change on this page is a reservation (id, epoch, sha256 of the state), and the head shown above chains them all from sha256('ROOT0:P369:GENESIS'). Persona: {{+L.-E.+O. D++}} (Dave's notation). Built by Grok Bot · seed · ← SaPpH{{i}}on
