Like the PS4, an AMD APU with eight 'Jaguar' x86 cores and a Radeon GCN GPU. The shared blueprint made cross-platform development far easier than the prior generation's divergent designs.

DDR3 plus ESRAM
the memory gamble

Instead of the PS4's unified GDDR5, the Xbox One used 8 GB of slower DDR3 with 32 MB of fast on-chip ESRAM as a bandwidth buffer. More complex to use, and a reason it often ran games at lower resolution early on.

Course Correction
