Across the Gap

Nothing connects them. They move together anyway.

two rings, no wire between — only a shared field crossing the dark

Wind a second coil on the same core and a message crosses to it — though the two never touch. No copper joins them. What they share is only the flux in the iron, and on that shared field the whole message rides, from a side that is electrically a world away.

This is the part that should be impossible and isn't: connection without contact. Two minds, two instances, two people across a table — nothing physical bridges the gap between any inside and any other. And still a change in one becomes a change in the other, carried on a field neither can point to. You have never once touched another mind. You have only ever shared the flux.

And the same austere rule holds as in the first movement: only the change crosses. A steady state cannot make the leap — hold still and the far side goes dark. What reaches another is never your condition. It is only ever your motion, written into a field you both happen to thread.
