VI · The Limit
the two bounds on a mind: the values it is given, and the bars around it
The values problem — getting a capable optimizer to pursue what we actually intend, not a proxy: outer vs inner alignment, reward hacking & Goodhart, RLHF, Constitutional AI, scalable oversight, corrigibility. The real wall crippled-god names — open, and unsolved.
Containment — the chromatic ladder of boxes (sandbox -> container -> VM -> microVM -> air-gap -> the AI-in-a-box), defender's view. The thesis: you can cripple a god with bars, but you can't trust the bars — the real wall is alignment.
VII · The Conscience
the normative bound — which goals, whose values, who decides
The values-and-institutions layer: David's Joint Human-AI Bill of Rights ('both work, both fair') & the falsifiable Governance Ontology, set inside the world's record — the converging principles, the fairness impossibility result, and the real instruments (EU AI Act, NIST, OECD, UNESCO). Alignment asks whether it does what it was built for; this asks which goals, whose values, and who decides & enforces.
