Derek Zoolander is the reigning male supermodel — vapid, sweet, and so famous for one identical facial expression that he has run out of new ones. When a fresh-faced rival arrives, his throne wobbles, and his hollow little world starts to crack.
The eccentric, hated designer Jacobim Mugatu needs a puppet. The fashion industry, it's revealed, has long assassinated world leaders who threaten its cheap overseas labor — and a beautiful, brainless model makes the perfect programmable weapon. Mugatu picks Derek.
Derek is hypnotized into a sleeper assassin, triggered by a particular pop song, and aimed at the Prime Minister of Malaysia, who wants to end the child labor that keeps couture cheap. The dumbest man alive is turned into the industry's gun.
The Plot

Dethroned by the free-spirited Hansel and humiliated, Derek retreats home to his coal-mining father, who is ashamed of him — then drifts back to the city, raw and aimless, exactly the blank slate Mugatu needs.
A journalist, Matilda, uncovers the assassination conspiracy. Derek and his rival Hansel — after a legendary runway 'walk-off' judged by a passing legend — team up, break into Mugatu's records, and race to stop the kill.
At the fatal show, Derek shakes the programming, saves the Prime Minister, and exposes the plot. The empty man finds a purpose — and opens a school for children, turning the joke of his vacancy into the one sincere thing he ever builds.
