# The Wise Ones · the dreamwalkers and counselors of the Aiel

**The Wise Ones** are the women of the Aiel who hold wisdom, healing, and the law of the people — counselors to the clan chiefs whom even the hardest war leaders dare not ignore. They are proud, formidable, and bound utterly by *ji'e'toh*, the code of obligation and shame; to defy them is unthinkable, and they answer to no man.

Many of them are **dreamwalkers**, able to enter and master Tel'aran'rhiod, the World of Dreams, where they meet, scheme, and watch the threads of what may come. Some can channel the One Power, a thing they keep hidden among a people who do not speak of such gifts lightly. It is the Wise Ones who school Egwene in the dream and Aviendha in the ways of wisdom, and who guard the buried truth of the Aiel's origins.

Their nature is **ethereal** — their deepest craft is worked in the World of Dreams and in the unseen weave of law, counsel, and memory that holds a fierce people together.
