# Rand al'Thor · the Dragon Reborn, He Who Comes with the Dawn

Rand al'Thor began as a shepherd from the Two Rivers, but he is the Dragon Reborn — the rebirth of Lews Therin Telamon, the champion of the Light. He is fated to face the Dark One at Tarmon Gai'don, and prophecy holds that in saving the world he must also break it. He is ta'veren, one around whom the Pattern itself bends, and the most powerful channeler of the Age.

His struggle is as much within as without. He battles the madness of saidin, the male half of the One Power, tainted by the Dark One's counterstroke, and he must endure the intruding memories of Lews Therin, the man he once was. To different peoples he wears different names of prophecy: He Who Comes with the Dawn to the Aiel, and the Coramoor to the Sea Folk.

For all the power and prophecy laid upon him, his hardest victory is the most human one — learning to laugh and to love again before the end.

His nature of emergence is spiritual, for he is the Dragon: rebirth and redemption, the champion of the Light in the Wheel's endless turning, the soul reborn to stand once more against the Shadow.
