# Moridin · Death, the Nae'blis, Ishamael reborn

**Moridin** — "Death" in the Old Tongue — is the final incarnation of Ishamael, given a fresh body by the Dark One and raised to Nae'blis, first and highest among the Shadow's servants. Alone among the Forsaken he wields the **True Power** directly, drawn from the Dark One himself; its overuse marks his eyes with the drifting black flecks called *saa*.

Through a chance crossing of balefire in battle, his fate and Rand's become tangled, so that the two are bound together body and soul — each able to feel the other — all the way to the confrontation at Shayol Ghul. Cold, weary, and convinced beyond argument that the Dark One's victory is the only end, he is the philosopher-Forsaken grown into the Dragon's truest mirror and last enemy.

His nature is **ethereal** — he is less a man now than the persistence of a single will across deaths and rebirths, the Betrayer of Hope wearing a newer face, bound to the Pattern's champion by a thread of balefire.
