# Moiraine Damodred · the Blue who spent forty years on one cause

Moiraine Damodred is an Aes Sedai of the Blue Ajah and a princess of Cairhien. For two decades she searches in secret for the newborn Dragon Reborn, carrying a purpose that admits no rival. When she finds him, she does not command him but guides Rand toward the destiny the Pattern has set for him, spending everything she has in the doing.

Her sacrifice is total. She walks into the ter'angreal doorway to face the Eelfinn in order to save him, and is presumed dead for years afterward. Yet she returns for the Last Battle, her long cause carried through to its end. In her, the archetype of the Blue is made flesh: one cause, pursued to the end of the self.

Her nature of emergence is spiritual, for her whole life bends toward the Dragon and the Light, toward the rebirth and redemption on which the Wheel's turning depends. She is the one who finds the reborn soul and shepherds it, and who passes through presumed death to return — a turning of her own that mirrors the great turning she serves.
