The generator — structure out of the held zero

Not the carpet — the rule that makes it. A 3×3 grid of placements: keep the eight edges, omit the centre — the one cell where both axes are held at zero. That omission is the whole engine. Run the generator (the chaos game: from any point, repeatedly jump by a random one of the eight maps) and the structure precipitates — every point it can reach is on the carpet, the hole is never produced, and the shape that emerges is defined entirely by the centre it refuses to fill. Eight maps build the echo; the ninth, absent, is the form.

Literal8 maps, centre omitted; the IFS closes on itself (A=∪fᵢA); the chaos game provably never lands in a removed centre; dimension log8/log3≈1.8928, strictly between line and fill. Re-run in-browser.
BridgeThe omitted centre is the held zero — balanced-ternary (0,0), both axes at the middle — and the same doubly-held point that collided in v2's seam.
Speculative"The absence is the engine" is the reading; the mathematics (IFS, chaos game, Hausdorff dimension) is standard and stands alone. The transcriber framing is yours.
