Newton’s and Schrödinger’s equations are time-reversal symmetric: reverse every velocity and the system retraces its path exactly — a two-body elastic collision run backward is still a valid solution. Yet a gas released in a box, or cream in coffee, spreads and NEVER spontaneously un-spreads: entropy increases (the second law), giving time a direction. The resolution is statistical — the reversed state is allowed but astronomically improbable. A fail-loud self-check throws unless the reversible system returns to its start on velocity-reversal while the mixing one does not. ◆ real physics, node-verified.
