Freud split the psyche into id (raw drive), ego (the negotiator), and super-ego (the internalized judge). The Super-Id inverts the last: not the judge above the self, but the drive enthroned as sovereign — pleasure and will made the only law. Nietzsche and the hedonists are its two great theorists.
