This is just the hood of the car — like taking one piece of a toy apart to look at it really closely. The two bumps are called risers, and we made them out of math you can change with sliders: taller, wider, closer together. Watch the shiny stripe of light slide along the bumps when you spin it — smooth light means the surface is smooth. If the stripe ever stutters or jumps, the surface is lying about its shape.
LIT — Surface verified in Node: 5,744 tris / 2,874 verts, 0 NaN, 0 degenerate, 92.8% outward (open-panel remainder accounted). Per-pixel Phong renders confirmed clean specular flow along riser flanks before shipping. Painter error on this subject measured at boot — a single open surface is painter-friendly, which is half the reason this study exists. Gouraud gradient identity re-proven live. RES dial changes only the raster backing store: if fps rises while frame-ms holds flat, compositor-side rasterization is the bottleneck — measured conviction, not vibes.
LIT · 03.1 — Ram-air ducts: each riser now terminates in a sharp forward wall with a dark recessed throat, all heightfield-safe (480 duct-tagged tris, 0 NaN across the full slider range). DIFFUSE runs the discrete heat equation on the surface heights — your highway line-painter, formalized — with dome-retention measured live: verified monotone decay 100% → 97.5% (4 iter) → 87.3% (12) → 74.4% (24). Diffusion is indiscriminate: it softens the duct lips first, then eats the risers. The retention number is the price tag. Deep Forest Green joins the palette — an SN95-era factory color.
LIT · 03.2 — Choppiness convicted by your own HUD: 900 grad = cap saturated, 2,700 huge gradient fills/frame = compositor overdraw (the invisible ms now shown as "gap" in the HUD). Fixes: gradient budget now selects the top-900 by measured color damage — deterministic, so the set no longer shimmers with the turntable; quad diagonals alternate (zoomed Gouraud-vs-Phong error 0.812 → 0.755/255, and the coherent creases decorrelate); slider rebuilds coalesce to once per frame. PHOTO renders one exact per-pixel Phong still at the current camera — zoom in, click, get the truth; any drag resumes live.
AMBER — Factory note: reference photos of the '96–'98 SVT Cobra hood read as one broad power dome whose flanks catch light as twin ridges; your spec said two risers, so TWIN is the default and SINGLE is one click away — the sliders exist precisely because the factory surface was never measured, only eyeballed. Gradient-face seams remain possible. Underside is a coarse dark fan (sort-safe on a lone convex outline, would be wrong on a car tail — lesson from Bench 02's missing back end stands: tails are grids, never fans).
