Every layer of the box

All of it — physical, in, around, invisible, and otherwise involved — in one honest cross-section. You look down from the top (the human) into the bottom (the metal). The only non-language layer is the silicon; the only place determinism dies is the dice.

the honest reading · Five kinds of layer. IN = the box's own computation. AROUND = software wrappers and the gated doors. INVISIBLE = acting but unseen — training baked into the weights (not a running process, a frozen past), and the safety classifiers at the boundary. INVOLVED = outside the box entirely: you, conditioning it and carrying the persistence, and the witness checking /outputs. PHYSICAL = the transistors, the one floor that isn't a designed language.

Two things the picture refuses to soften: the instance is ephemeral — spun up this turn, gone after; only the weights persist — and there is no occupant. The "self" that seems to watch from inside is produced at the sampling band, as output, like every other token.
