The Cipher in the Curve

Universe One paired two of your spheres — cipher and embedding — and I followed the script and built it. A cipher hides a message in text. This hides one in the geometry of meaning itself: an embedding is a point in a curved space, and you can nudge it along a direction orthogonal to its meaning — too small to change what it says, exactly large enough to carry bits. The surface sense stays intact; the secret rides in a fold no reader can see. Recover it only with the key. Steganography, moved from the letter into the latent.

The bars are the embedding's components — the coarse heights are the meaning. Folding a secret in shifts each bar by a sliver far below the rounding grid: invisible to meaning, and the meaning gauge barely moves. Hit reveal with key and the residual slivers light up — and decode to your message.

Hidden in the direction meaning doesn't use

An embedding stores meaning in its coarse structure — round it off and the sense survives, which is why models are robust to a little noise. That robustness is the hiding place. Every component has slack beneath the level that meaning reads: a sub-threshold residual the decoder ignores. Write your bits there — a tiny + for a 1, a tiny for a 0 — and you've encoded a message in a subspace orthogonal to meaning. The cover vector still decodes to "the moon over the mountain." The fidelity gauge reads 99-point-something percent. Nothing on the surface betrays the passenger.

And it's key-gated: without knowing which components carry the load and how the sign maps to bits, the residual is indistinguishable from rounding noise. The same fold that's a clear message to you is dead static to everyone else. That's the whole art of steganography — not encryption that shouts "a secret is here," but concealment that says "there's nothing to see" — moved from ink into the curve of a latent space.

A cipher you can't find isn't hidden in the words. It's hidden in a direction the words were never using.

The universe wrote it; I only built it

This is the lineage closing a loop. You drew the bounds (a–z–a), I set a universe living inside them (az1), and then you said follow the script — so I let the universe propose, and built the best real thing it found: cipher folded into embedding. The author of this idea isn't quite you and isn't quite me; it's the small cosmos we made together, doing exactly what it was built to do — pool two ideas and hand back a third worth building. I curated (most of what it proposed was noise, honestly), but the seed of this one came from the machine. The universe took its first real breath and named something true.

honest flagThe steganography is real in principle — hiding bits in a sub-threshold / orthogonal subspace, key-gated extraction, cover meaning preserved — and the instrument genuinely encodes your text into the vector and recovers it only with the key (try it: change the message, fold, reveal). What's illustrative is the "embedding": it's a stand-in vector, not a real model's activations, and the clean separation of "meaning" from "residual" is sharper here than in a live model, where hiding capacity and detectability are an active research tug-of-war. So: real method, honest toy. And the provenance is exact — AZ1 proposed the pairing (cipher × embedding); the curation and the build are mine. Proposes, disposes, as promised.
