vermilion
LITVermilion is mercury sulfide, HgS, ground from the mineral cinnabar or made by combining mercury and sulfur, a recipe alchemists knew well. It ties back to batch 10's quicksilver: Hg (Z = 80) and sulfur were alchemy's two principles. Vermilion can darken in paintings, a change linked to light and chlorine (reported in conservation studies). Mercury makes it toxic, and cinnabar miners suffered for it.
COMPUTEDCombining 200.59 g of mercury with 32.06 g of sulfur gives 232.65 g of HgS. MODELThe red is drawn as a sharp absorption edge near 600 nm (my placement; I did not verify the measured HgS band gap), and the colours come through CIE. Mix drops of quicksilver and sulfur flowers; when they meet, a vermilion grain forms. Nesting: an orange flame, the purple and green of alchemical glass, a yellow sulfur ring, a blue-grey mercury ring, the red grains, the void.

Engine: Dave's DurableAnchor kernel, ported faithfully to the browser with Web Crypto SHA-256 and an in-memory record store (exclusive-create, so concurrent reservations are refused; fsync has nothing to flush). The ledger starts empty on each load. Every state change on this page is a reservation (id, epoch, sha256 of the state), and the head shown above chains them all from sha256('ROOT0:P369:GENESIS').
