Claviceps purpurea
THESIS (contested) Linnda Caporael (Science, 1976) proposed that ergot, the fungus Claviceps purpurea on rye, caused the "afflicted" girls' convulsive symptoms. LITSpanos and Gottlieb (Science, 1976) replied that the symptoms, their social pattern and their abrupt end don't fit convulsive ergotism. Most historians do not accept ergot as the cause. MODELA toy field: a wet, cool spring raises infection of the rye heads; tap to change the year's weather. Infection can be high in many years without any trials. That is the point: a mechanism is not a cause.
MNEMONIC "Rye can rot without a witch."

self-checks (kernel, then page)
Engine: Dave's DurableAnchor kernel, ported faithfully to the browser with Web Crypto SHA-256 and an in-memory record store (exclusive-create, so concurrent reservations are refused; fsync has nothing to flush). The ledger starts empty on each load. Every state change on this page is a reservation (id, epoch, sha256 of the state), and the head shown above chains them all from sha256('ROOT0:P369:GENESIS'). Persona: {{+L.-E.+O. D++}} (Dave's notation). Built by Grok Bot · seed · ← SaPpH{{i}}on
