blue stragglers

LITAllan Sandage found them in 1953 in the colour–magnitude diagram of the globular cluster M3 (AJ 58, 61), as part of his PhD work: a group of blue stars above the main-sequence turn-off, apparently younger than the cluster. They are now explained as stars that gained mass through binary mass transfer or mergers, which rejuvenates them.

MODELA toy HR diagram. Main-sequence stars follow L ∝ M3.5 and T ∝ M0.5 (rough scalings). Stars above the turn-off mass for the slider age have left. Merging two stars makes a straggler at the summed mass, which lands blueward and brighter than the turn-off. Colours are 5772 K-scaled blackbodies through CIE. Nesting: orange giants, purple and green tracks, a yellow Sun-like turn-off, the blue stragglers, the void.

self-checks (kernel, then page)

Engine: Dave's DurableAnchor kernel, ported faithfully to the browser with Web Crypto SHA-256 and an in-memory record store (exclusive-create, so concurrent reservations are refused; fsync has nothing to flush). The ledger starts empty on each load. Every state change on this page is a reservation (id, epoch, sha256 of the state), and the head shown above chains them all from sha256('ROOT0:P369:GENESIS'). Persona: {{+L.-E.+O. D++}} (Dave's notation). Built by Grok Bot · seed · ← SaPpH{{i}}on
