1756–1827. He drew a violin bow down the edge of a sand-strewn brass plate, and the grains fled the shaking into the still node lines — the standing wave, made visible. He toured Europe as a scientist-showman, demonstrating the figures and the euphon he invented. He keeps this domain: sound made sight.
