Paper Themes

The rule. Every stock is named in Sumerian and marked in cuneiform. Neutral is the base — the fired ground all other stocks are read against. A new theme is only real once it is pressed, swatched, and given its recipe here. Contrast is measured against the base, never against the page.

The fired tablet. Sumerian gibil — fire, the firing, renewal-by-fire. Warm stone clay with the kiln-ember banked into the body: the orange is not on the paper, it is in it, the heat that fixed the record glowing under the surface. The durable ground; everything contrasts against GIBIL.
