The Pawn Ticket

PLEDGER persist 7 · act 7 · react 322 · learn 150 · loop 7

LIT The counter keeps a pledge when the ticket is the next one and the sum is above zero. Seven lines are written. Seven blank pledges are refused. The ink sums to 322, and the watch is the heavy line at 150.

AMBER The room is a Petersburg counter. Crime and Punishment ran in The Russian Messenger in twelve monthly parts in 1866, and as a book in 1867. That dating is assigned here and is not recomputed. The driveway across the shelf keeps a tag by this same rule.

WALL The seven lines are this ticket. The page quotes no book and describes no method.

MODEL A pledge ticket with a perforated stub. The round mark is the clerk, not a coin.
