Following Cameron · 1983 → 1995
LIT Dave (t270): "perfect , take this and center on camaron but have it move and follow her from say 1983 ish, have it be axes of gray/white/black"
A follow camera centred on Cameron Howe of Halt and Catch Fire rides her path from 1983 to about 1995 on three axes: white = x = time, gray = y = what she builds, black = z = what it costs her (MODEL reading). Grayscale voxel art; real computing history tagged LIT, show events MODEL.
The axes
| white · x | time, 1983 → 1995 (one year = 3 units) | LIT calendar years |
| gray · y | what she builds at that point (0–1) | MODEL my reading of the show, not a measurement |
| black · z | what it costs her at that point (0–1) | MODEL my reading of the show, not a measurement |
MODEL Which colour goes on which axis, and what gray and black stand for, is my choice; Dave's phrase is kept as he wrote it. The scene, the CRT pass and every rendered pixel are grayscale (checked below).
| year | era | where | gray (builds) | black (costs) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1983 | Cardiff Electric · the Giant | Dallas | 0.45 | 0.55 |
| 1985 | Mutiny · Texas | Dallas | 0.62 | 0.40 |
| 1986 | Westbound · California | Silicon Valley | 0.76 | 0.70 |
| 1990 | Atari years · Japan | Tokyo | 0.66 | 0.45 |
| 1992 | Pilgrim & the browser | Japan / California | 0.82 | 0.82 |
| 1994 | Rover · Comet | California | 0.72 | 0.88 |
| 1994 | The next thing | California | 0.55 | 0.30 |
Two agents · FOLLOWER + CRITIC
MODEL FOLLOWER tunes the follow camera (distance, height, side angle, look-ahead, field of view, pixel size, gray levels, scanlines, curvature). CRITIC renders 160×120 test frames at all seven era stops and scores them from pixels and geometry: framing, her size on screen, gray contrast and a clear line of sight (raycast). A change is kept only if the score goes up.

MODEL The figure is an original grayscale voxel coder on a hover board, inspired by the character; no show art, likeness, logos or dialogue are used. Show events are told as short MODEL references (sources: the show's Wikipedia page and fan wiki).
WALL Not done: no show footage or art; the gray and black values are not data; the series ends around 1994–95, so the path stops there.
