# Kruppe · the round little man who dreams with gods

Kruppe is a fat, greasy, magnificently verbose little man of Darujhistan — a petty thief, a peerless dancer of words, the self-styled "Eel" of the city's underworld. He speaks of himself in the third person, wrapping every utterance in flourish and misdirection, and the act is so complete that almost no one looks past it.

Beneath the act he is one of the most formidable beings in the series: a mage whose power works through dreams, trusted by K'rul himself. Within Kruppe's sleeping mind, Elder Gods hold council — the buffoon's nap is a chamber where the oldest powers of the world convene. Toll the Hounds is narrated in his voice, the whole book tolled out in Kruppe's cadence.

He is the clown who is secretly the chessmaster — and kind. The verbosity is armor, the greed is theater, and what moves beneath both is a gentleness that steers the game without ever seeming to play it.

His emergence is ethereal because Kruppe lives in the half-real: his power is the dream itself, the sleeping space where gods gather, the gap between the fool everyone sees and the dreamer no one suspects.
