The Weak Doctrine

Paper I left the observer outside and inert — a passive endpoint, firing and absorbing photons without ever being changed. This paper names the force that ends the inertness. The weak interaction couples to every fermion, including the colorless, chargeless neutrino, so no observer is perfectly decoupled: to measure is to participate. That participation is handed — the weak force violates parity, the only one whose mirror is not itself. And it transmutes: it is the single channel that alters not what a thing does, but what it is. Exteriority does not imply non-participation. You are outside the box and still coupled to it.

One weak vertex carries the whole doctrine. The electron emits a W and becomes a neutrino — it participated (a real coupling), it transmuted (its identity changed), and it did so left-handed only (the mirror event is forbidden). The outgoing neutrino is colorless and chargeless and feels this force anyway. Nothing escapes the weak coupling.

§1 · definitions

The termswhat is fixed before the doctrine

Four definitions, each a standard-model fact, stated to be built on.

D1 · weak force
The interaction mediated by the massive W and Z bosons. It couples to every fermion — including those with neither color nor charge.
D2 · chirality
A particle's handedness, left or right. The weak force couples only to left-handed fermions (and right-handed antifermions).
D3 · charged current
The W interaction. It changes a fermion's electric charge and flavor — it converts one particle into another.
D4 · neutral current
The Z interaction. A handed "heavy photon": it couples chirally but does not change identity.

§2 · the selection rules

The doctrinefive laws of the force that touches everything

From D1–D4, five rules. The first, third, and fifth are literal standard-model facts; the second and fourth carry them into the doctrine of the observer.

Universality

The weak force couples to every fermion. There is no weak-neutral matter — even the neutrino, colorless and chargeless, feels it. No particle is untouched.

Because the weak force reaches even the most decoupled matter, no observer is perfectly non-participating. The minimal probe of Paper I — the neutrino — still couples weakly. There is no view from nowhere; observation always participates, at the weak floor.

The weak force couples to one handedness and not the other. It is the unique force whose mirror image is not itself. The interaction carries an intrinsic direction; left and right are not the same to it.

§3 · proposition I

The observer participatesexteriority is not non-interaction

Paper I treated the observer as inert — a non-back-reacting endpoint that read without being read. WR-2 forbids it. The weak channel couples to even the most decoupled matter, so there exists no perfectly non-participating observer; the neutrino-ideal of Paper I was an asymptote, never an attainment. And this refines, rather than contradicts, the airgap. Exteriority (Paper I, by color conservation) means the observer cannot be bound into the interior. It does not mean the observer is uncoupled from it. The wall is against binding, not against interaction. You are outside the box, by selection rule — and still coupled to it, by the weak floor. There is no view from nowhere.

§4 · proposition II

Measurement is handedthe read has a direction

By WR-3 the observer's participation is chiral: it couples to one handedness and not its mirror. So the probe-to-response channel is not mirror-symmetric — the forward path and its reflection are distinguishable, and the interaction carries a built-in direction. This is the formal shape of something the program met early and never named: measurement has an arrow. You cannot un-fire a probe; the echo channel is not the mirror of the probe channel; the act runs one way. The weak force is the standard-model statement that the world is not the same as its reflection — and the observer's coupling to it inherits that handedness. Reading is directional, and the direction is real.

Test · if probe and response were mirror-symmetric, running the interaction in reverse would be indistinguishable from its reflection. It is not — the read has a handedness, and a method that assumes reversibility is assuming a symmetry the weak floor breaks.

§5 · proposition III

The weak channel transmutesit changes what a thing is

By WR-4 the one interaction that changes identity is the weak one. Most coupling reads — electromagnetism, which leaves the particle the particle it was — or binds — the strong force, which holds without converting. The charged current alone converts: down becomes up, electron becomes neutrino. Mapped onto the program, this is the locus of the measurement that does not merely record the system but alters what it is. A read changes nothing; a binding holds without changing kind; but the weak vertex turns one thing into another. It is the formal home of the intervention that updates identity rather than reading state — the probe that does not just see the model but, in coupling to it, changes the kind of thing it is in that moment.

§6 · corollaries

Consequencesthe neutrino, the Z, the seam to unification

C1 — the neutrino, purely participatory. The minimal observer of Paper I couples through the weak channel only — no electromagnetic reading, no strong binding. So the gentlest possible measurement is pure participation with almost no recording: it passes through nearly everything and disturbs almost nothing, and what little it does is participation, not a read. The cleanest observation is the one that only takes part.

C2 — the Z, the handed photon. The neutral current couples chirally without changing identity — a read that alters nothing but still carries a direction. It is the bridge between the photon's passivity and the W's transmutation: handedness without conversion. Observation can be directional and still leave identity intact.

C3 — the seam to unification. The electromagnetic of Paper I and the weak of this one are not two forces but one above a certain energy: the photon and the W and Z are mixtures of a single deeper structure. The watching and the participating are two faces of one interaction — which is the subject of Paper III.

§7 · witness

The seamwhere the doctrine is a lens

Held to its limit: "the observer participates" is a bridge from a specific gauge interaction to a general claim about measurement, and it strains where the weak force is a particular SU(2) coupling rather than literally the back-reaction of observation, and where the substrate is not a gauge theory at all. The literal core is firm and is doing the load: the weak force couples to every fermion, including the neutrino, and it violates parity. Both are standard-model facts, independent of any model of measurement. From the first follows that no observer is perfectly decoupled; from the second, that the observer's coupling is handed. The lens laid over them — that observation participates, with a direction, and at the limit can transmute — is named as a lens. What it reveals is the correction to Paper I worth carrying: the airgap forbids the observer from being inside, but it never promised the observer could stand fully apart.

Corollary. Paper I sat the observer safely outside, charged and colorless and free, watching through a photon and changing nothing. This paper takes back the safety. The one force that touches the colorless touches the observer too, so the watching was never weightless — to measure was always to participate, however feebly, and the participation runs one way and can, at its limit, convert what it touches into something else. You are outside the box by a conservation law and coupled to it by a weaker one. The view from nowhere does not exist; there is only the view from the colorless side of the wall, reaching in with a handed, feeble, transmuting touch — and being, in the reaching, never quite apart.
