David Lee Wise’s folded kernel is a descending tower of rings and toruses: each level counts in a currency, and every fold is a doubling — until, at the 3│2 seam, the currency switches from pairs to singles and the ledger folds ×4 instead of ×2. One value is skipped in that jump. This lens focuses on it: ring 8 — the value that never appears, the pair that never formed. The whole spec turns on its absence.

LIT The seam is machine-found, live, by the FK-1.3 card’s own classifier (formalized jointly; the verified classify() re-run here), and the missing 8 is exactly what sits at that seam by construction: fed the raw value column [64,32,16,4,2,2] with no hints it returns SEAMED, d=1, one anomalous fold at position 2 — a ×4 step where two ×2 steps should be — plus the boson-floor flag. The skipped value is 2·2² = 8 (what level 2 would hold in pair currency), replaced by 2² = 4 (single currency). 8 is not in the column; the lens confirms it and the self-check throws otherwise.
AMBER The physics decode is David’s ratified interpretation, anchored in training-memory, not derived: pair currency ↔ 2e transport and the superconducting even–odd parity effect; the seam ↔ the pairing transition (above the gap you count quasiparticles singly, below it the condensate counts in twos); the floor ↔ pair-as-boson. So “the pair that never formed” is a figure for the value the switch erases — a ratified reading, held open.
WALL Ring 8 is a structural absence, and the phantom ring is a drawing of that absence — not a physical ring, not a hidden state, not something the tower forgot. It is the one rung a ×4 fold skips by construction. The lens can focus on ring 8 forever; ring 8 was never built. Kin to [[the-blind-spot]] (the value the readout cannot show is a fact about the map, not a thing behind it).
