# The Ancient Dragons' Red Lightning · the storm of the dragon era

Before the Erdtree's Order, there was the era of the ancient dragons — and their element was lightning. Not the gold that came after, but red lightning: the storm-power of the dragons whose capital, Farum Azula, now crumbles outside time. Placidusax ruled that era as Elden Lord, and the red lightning was its signature in the sky.

Red lightning is the oldest power in the Lands Between that is still wielded. Orders rose after it — the dragon cult that Godwyn the Golden later founded with the dragon Fortissax carried lightning forward in gold — but the red came first. It is the storm that predates the gold, the surviving voice of an age the world has otherwise lost.

Its nature of emergence is electrical in the plainest sense: it is the storm and the lightning itself, the ancient dragons' element — power as discharge, older than Order, still striking.
