# Maliketh, the Black Blade · the shadow-beast who keeps Death

Maliketh is Marika's shadowbound beast and her half-brother — the keeper into whose blade she sealed Destined Death. His was a single charge: hold Death out of the world. He held it faithfully until the Night of the Black Knives, when part of Destined Death was stolen, and the one duty given to him was broken.

Shame followed failure. Maliketh hid himself away as the cleric-beast "Gurranq" in the Bestial Sanctum, devouring deathroot — gnawing back, scrap by scrap, the Death that leaked out of his keeping. The keeper of Death reduced to eating its residue is one of the quiet tragedies of his story.

Yet the world's mending runs through him. To repair the Elden Ring, the Tarnished must seek him in Farum Azula and slay him, loosing Death upon the world at last. He is the faithful guardian whose success would have made the story impossible: had he never failed, and were he never broken, nothing could end — and so nothing could begin.

His emergence is ethereal because he is shadow made guardian: a half-real being bound in the unseen space behind his half-sister, keeping fate itself — Destined Death — sealed away from the living world.
