# Destined Death · the Rune of Death, removed from the Ring

Destined Death is the Rune of Death — the fated death that Marika removed from the Elden Ring at the dawn of her Order. With it gone, true death left the world, and the golden lineage could not truly die. What should have been the most ordinary law of the Lands Between became its great absence.

The rune was not destroyed but sealed, hidden in the blade of the shadow-beast Maliketh. Even sealed, it was not safe: a part of it was stolen on the Night of the Black Knives and used to murder Godwyn the Golden — killing his soul but not his body, a death made wrong by a death made incomplete.

It is the element the whole plot turns on. To mend the Elden Ring, the Tarnished must first slay death's keeper and return Death to the world — restoring what Marika took before anything broken can be made whole.

Its emergence is ethereal: Destined Death is fate itself, an unseen power subtracted from the order of things — not a being or a flame but the half-real shape of an ending, present in the world chiefly as its own absence.
