# Emperor Shaddam IV · the last Padishah Emperor of House Corrino

Shaddam IV sits as Padishah Emperor of the Known Universe, sovereign over the Great Houses and the long Corrino dynasty. Fearing the rise of House Atreides, he conspires in secret with the Harkonnens to destroy it, lending his dreaded Sardaukar legions to the trap that is meant to end the Atreides line.

The conspiracy turns on him. When Paul's Fremen shatter the feared Sardaukar in open battle and threaten to destroy the spice forever, the Emperor's leverage collapses. Stripped of his soldiers' invincibility and of his hold over the source of all power, Shaddam is forced to abdicate, and the long Corrino reign comes to its end.

His emergence is natural — the embodied register of the saga. He is no prescient seer and no machine-mind, but a man of the throne ruling through legions, the politics of the Houses, and the hard fact of armies in the desert. His is the story of power that overreached and fell.
