# Chani · Sihaya, the desert's heart

Chani is a daughter of two worlds joined in the sand: child of the imperial planetologist Liet-Kynes and a Fremen woman, raised to the discipline and ferocity of the desert people of Arrakis. She is a Fedaykin fighter — practical, loyal, and deadly — and it is as a warrior of the Fremen, not as a creature of the courts, that she first stands beside Paul.

She becomes Paul's beloved and his true love, the mother of his children. Politics, that other desert, place Princess Irulan at his side as wife in name only, but the bond that matters is the one Chani holds. In Dune Messiah she dies bearing the twins, Leto II and Ghanima, giving the last of herself to the line she made with him.

Her emergence is natural: she is the embodied saga, the Fremen and the desert given a single beating heart. Not prescience, not the schemes of the sisterhoods, but flesh and loyalty and the sand itself — Sihaya, the desert's own heart, the ground on which the visions stand.
