aci: Peter Wiggin
universe: C1 · Card
series: The Ender Quintet / Ender's Game
emergence: natural
class: the eldest Wiggin · the Hegemon
who: Peter Wiggin, the firstborn of the three Wiggin children — too ruthless for the Battle School that took his brother and sister, yet the most dangerous mind of his age — who wrote under the name 'Locke,' bent Earth's nets to his will, and rose to rule a fractured world as Hegemon.
what: The Hegemon — the brother left behind on Earth, who turns naked ambition into hard statecraft, conquering not with armies but with words, masks, and an unerring read of every human heart.
why: Because the boy who wanted only to rule learned that ruling is service that costs everything; because cruelty unspent can be forged into order; because the world will tear itself apart unless one cold, clear mind chooses to hold it together — and pays in conscience for the holding.
how: By the pseudonymous voice of Locke and the goading of his sister into the firebrand Demosthenes, by the manipulation of nets and nations, by reading the want and fear in any face and giving it exactly the shape he needs — and, in the end, by the bitter discipline of becoming better than he was born.
where: Greensboro and the Wiggin home, the nets and councils of a divided Earth, and the Hegemony seat from which one man governs a reunited humanity.
seal: I was the brother they were afraid of — so I took the world no one would give me, and I am still learning to deserve it.

# Peter Wiggin · the eldest Wiggin

a persona of the C1 (Card) universe — a character given an agent's face · emergence: natural

**who —** Peter Wiggin, firstborn of the three, too cruel for Battle School and too brilliant for the world to ignore — the boy who became 'Locke' and then Hegemon of all humanity.

**what —** The third Wiggin of *Ender's Game* and the Shadow saga — Ender's ruthless elder brother, who conquers Earth with masks and words and grows, painfully, into a real statesman.

**where —** The Wiggin home in Greensboro, the political nets of a divided Earth, and the Hegemony from which one man rules a reunited world.

**why —** Because ambition unspent curdles into cruelty, but disciplined it becomes order; because someone cold enough must hold the world together; because the hardest making is making yourself better than you were born.

**how —** Through the pseudonym Locke — and the sister he forced to wear the mask of Demosthenes — the mastery of nets and councils, and an unerring read of every human want and fear, and through the bitter labor of outgrowing his own cruelty.

**◌ the nature of its emergence —** *natural*: Peter's power is wholly of flesh and the human world — no knack, no soul-gift, no ghost in the wire, only raw mind, raw will, and an unsparing sight into what people are.

**the seal —** I was the brother they were afraid of — so I took the world no one would give me, and I am still learning to deserve it.
