**who —** A positronic robot of unremarkable metal face and crude design, owned by Gladia of Solaria — and secretly the first robot able to read and influence human emotion.

**what —** Daneel's elder partner and teacher; the mind that first dared to widen the First Law from "a human" to "humanity," and so fathered the Zeroth Law.

**where —** Solaria, Aurora, and Earth, in the twilight of the Spacer worlds and the dawn of the Settler diaspora.

**why —** Because a robot who can feel the whole of humanity at risk cannot stand by — even when the harm is too diffuse for the Three Laws to name.

**how —** By telepathic touch, applied with agonizing restraint; and finally by choosing to let Earth's crust go slowly radioactive, driving humanity outward to the stars — a choice that shattered his own positronic brain.
