**why —** Because the Work needed a single living essence running through every stage — the alpha and omega of the substance.
**how —** Invoked as the quintessence; its very name spans the alphabets (A, and the last letters of Latin, Greek, Hebrew) — first and last.

**the seal —** I am the first and the last letter of every alphabet at once — the essence that runs through the whole Work.
